Resource usage on your invoice

Genesys Cloud includes many capabilities that Genesys measures on a usage bases, including APIs, voice transcription, text-to-speech, recording storage, and BYOC minutes. Each capability includes a fair use allowance with your subscription. Genesys only bills your organization if your usage exceeds the allowance, calculates any overage charges at published rates, and bills those overages monthly in arrears, after the usage occurs.

This guide walks through a customer example to show how API usage charges appear on your invoice. Use the steps outlined below to understand the charges on your bill for other capabilities included with Genesys Cloud.

For more information about the full list of usage-based resources and rates, see Genesys Cloud fair use policy.

Paso 1: Determinar el uso razonable permitido

In this example, the customer has one Genesys Cloud CX 3 concurrent license. Based on the fair use table for API requests, their allowance is 182,000 requests per month.

Segundo paso: Revisar el uso real

In this example, the customer’s usage report showed 505,992 total API requests during the monthly service period. Genesys always bills overage charges monthly, in arrears, regardless of whether the contract is monthly or annual.

Note: For more information about how to access your usage report, see View your billing and usage summary

Step 3: Reconcile usage against your allowance

The next step is to compare total usage to the fair use allowance.

Billable Usage = Actual Usage – Fair Use Allowance.

  • Actual Usage: 505,992 API requests (Step 2)
  • Fair Use Allowance: 182,000 API requests (Step 1)
  • Overage Usage: 505,992 – 182,000 = 323,992 API requests

The invoice displays the number of API requests. This charge appears within the Core Services and Fees section of the invoice under Resource Usage.

Note: BYOC usage charges that exceed fair use allocation differ from other Genesys Cloud calculations on your invoice. For more information, see Understand BYOC Cloud billing on your invoice.

Paso 4: Aplicar la tasa de exceso

To continue the example, the API usage overage rate for this United States customer is $0.0001 per request.

To calculate the charges on the invoice, multiply the overage usage by the overage rate:

  • Overage Usage:      323,992 API requests (Step 3)
  • Overage Rate:         $0.0001 per request (Step 4)
  • Overage Usage:     323,992 x $0.0001 = $32.40 usage charge
Note: Overage rates for usage-based capabilities appear in the Genesys Cloud fair use policy rate table.

How overage rates differ across capabilities

While API overage is billed at $0.0001 per request, other usage-based capabilities have different rates; for example:

  • BYOC minutes: $0.00120 per minute (after allowance)
  • Recording storage: $0.0030 per GB per day beyond included storage
  • Speech transcription (STT): $0.0060 per minute
  • Text-to-Speech (TTS) standard: $0.0080 per minute

Therefore, while Genesys is consistent in first billing at fair use allowance and then billing overages in arrears at the published rate, the actual rate depends on the capability.

Step 5: Match to your invoice

The quantity, rate, and amounts calculated above match the corresponding line items on the invoice.

Why service dates can differ from invoice date

Service dates can differ from the invoice date, and sometimes include two months. Genesys bills usage charges, such as API calls, in arrears, so you see usage for the month before to the invoice date.

When usage and prepay items appear on the same invoice, the Service Dates shows multiple months. This display reflects that usage is billed after the fact, while prepay subscriptions are billed ahead.

Genesys bills prepay subscription items, like add-ons or bundles, one month in advance for annual month-to-month plans, or one year in advance for annual prepay plans and noted as “Prepay” on your invoice. The term start and end date show the month after the invoice date.

In this example, usage items from March 17 through April 16 appear on the April 18 invoice. This charge includes API resource usage and other items that Genesys bills on a usage, or month-to-month, basis and not prepaid.

Service dates versus invoice date

In the same example, the prepay subscription items reflect the term start and end date as a month after the invoice. Here, the dates are April 17 through May 16, since this plan an annual and month-to-month plan.

When usage and prepay items appear on the same invoice, the service dates show multiple months.

This behavior is expected and reflects that usage is billed after the fact, while prepay subscriptions are billed ahead.

Principales conclusiones

  • Many Genesys Cloud capabilities are measured on a usage basis and, if you exceed fair use, billed in arrears.
  • Overage charges are billed at published rates. For APIs, this charge is $0.0001 per request.
  • Rates differ by capability. For more information, see the Genesys Cloud fair use policy rate table.
  • If f your invoice contains a mix of prepay and usage-based items, then service dates on your invoice can span multiple months.
